Barcelona, Spain

Chris and I have always traveled with the kids- even when they were babies. Usually we pile everyone in the mini van and stay at cheap hotels, taking the backroads whenever possible & stopping to add stamps to our National Parks Passports as we go. As much as we love driving around this fine country, we’ve always wanted to travel to Europe. Unfortunately, other things always take precedence- medical bills, lack of time off, Lydia’s high medical needs, car repairs, the list can go on. Last year, however, we decided we needed to make this happen. The kids are growing so fast- we didn’t want to miss out on this experience with them. After lots of research, saving, a small loan, & a kids cruise free special, last Christmas we surprised the kids with a Mediterranean Cruise. Taking 6 kids to Europe for 21 days was a little overwhelming to plan for but we decided it would be worth it! Our first stop was Barcelona, Spain where we attempted to overcome our jet lag for 4 days before setting sail. It was such a colorful, friendly city & definitely a place we’d love to visit again. I got to practice my high school Spanish & we managed to get around using public transportation without losing any children. All of these images were taken while carrying a child on my back & generally clutching the hand of another. As if that wasn’t a challenge in itself, I decided to travel light, shooting only with a Canon 5DM3 and a Sigma 1.4 or a Fuji X100. Clare brought her Instax Wide, which I used on occasion too. I’d like to note that Clare turned 10 while we were on our trip and all she wanted was instant film.
