Photo Junkies Unite!

Recently,  I’ve had a desire to go out and meet new people. Which is honestly a little strange for me. Sarah is more the extrovert while I sometimes keep to myself when it comes to people I don’t know all that well. But I’ve had this drive to go out and meet photographers in the Des Moines area. There is a great number of us. At first I didn’t have a good reason other than to socialize and create a good network of friends. But tonight I think I realized the real reason why I’m doing this.

We’ve had the privilege to sit down and talk with some really talented people: Jill Brown of Jill Brown Photography, Tina Wagner of Tina Jean Photography and just recently Laura and Joey from Life Art Photographs – all wonderful people. Each of them genuine and extremely passionate about what they do. Each of us come from different backgrounds but yet have the same desire to create with a camera. It’s inspiring. And I think that’s what is driving me. I pull my inspiration not just from the images I see from other great photographers, but from the people themselves. Seeing that same desire to capture images that are not two dimensional – it’s contagious.

This evening we spoke of Jonathan Canlas who has an extraordinary storytelling ability with his images. I think it is what we all are ultimately striving for. Each engagement, wedding, family event and all that we are asked to do – we want to do it with a passion.

That’s all I have for tonight.

Hope you’ve had a great week so far.
