Grant & Allison :: Married [Preview]

“I hope they don’t want us to pose for any serious pictures because I simply can’t stop smiling.” These were the words I overheard from Grant while Sarah was composing a shot. This was one of the most affectionate and energetic couples we’ve ever photographed. Grant was literally doing handstands after the ceremony.

Sarah and I normally do not like posting “sneak previews” as we like to have, you, the viewer see these images in their entirety. I really enjoy preparing the whole storytelling aspect of the wedding day. But we are just too excited and wanted to post a couple of photographs while everything is still fresh in our  minds. We’ll have an entire post prepared by the middle of the week that’ll give the rest of the beautiful details.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Have a great start to the week!

The Manning Family :: Portraits

During mother’s day we made a trip out to Winterset to capture something close to my heart. We were asked to come out and do some portraits of my family. Specifically, my mother’s side.  During and after the photographs I was reminded how fast time slips by.  Family is really important to us and these past few years have been a little rough. We’ve lost some loved ones. My grandfather was the most recent to pass. Earlier was my uncle Tom. Both are terribly missed.

I often revisit memories of my childhood and walking in the front door of my grandparent’s house when they lived in Adel. Grandpa would have his green coffee cup in hand and tell you stories of his past about his life as a painter, as a musician, and as a father. I really loved those stories. They usually got me laughing as he’d sprinkle in a few colorful words and get my grandmother worked up. It was all in good fun and always ended with laughter. I can still see his smile.

Then there was my uncle Tom. Any time you were with him he was going to give you the latest run down of what was going on in the NFL. A Dallas cowboy fan at heart. And he loved people. When family was around he’d light up and sometimes join my grandfather with his snare drum while the guitar was playing.  The Lord felt his time here was done and he left us early in his life.

My Grandfather and Uncle are missing in these photographs, but they are always on our hearts and minds. Thanks to all for showing up and I hope you enjoy!

Kathleen and Ryan :: Maternity Session

For those that are blogstalkers, Kathleen and Ryan were one of our first blog entries and we photographed their engagement session in May last year. Absolutely wonderful! Later last year in August we photographed their beautiful wedding. We are now extremely excited to bring show them these images that were captured for their maternity session. It was perfect weather! I’ll stop the chatter and I hope you all enjoy!

Thank you both for allowing us to photograph all these special moments in your life. We can’t wait to do this again ::wink::

Katie & March :: Engaged

So we met this couple at our first ever bridal show back in September of 2009. They came up to us and said, “This doesn’t usually happen and we were not planning on booking anything for a wedding photographer but we really think you are the one.”  Needless to say they won our hearts 😉  I’m going to be honest, this was some of the most fun we’ve had during an engagement session. Hilarious and full of great personality. March said during the beginning of the shoot, “So I kind of, maybe made a superman shirt specifically for this shoot. Is that ok?”  Are you kidding? Absolutely! Both of them such a riot. Here are our favorites.

By the way…this was shot just this evening. I didn’t get on to edit these until 10:30p this evening. So in 2 hours of time, they’ve been culled, post processed, resized and assembled for web. I hope I can keep this pace.
