The Everything Bridal Show :: Des Moines

Once again we ventured out to Hy-Vee Hall for our second (ever!) bridal show. It was a great time! I enjoyed meeting a few new faces as well as seeing returning vendors from the September show. We didn’t know what to expect with the first show and so we approached this second time around a little differently. We wanted to just make sure we said hello to as many brides as possible and get our information in their hands.

Bridal shows can be chaotic, hectic and pretty overwhelming. Not the most ideal environment to book a client.  So we designed our booth this year to be bigger but minimalistic. We got one of 6 premium booths that was 12 feet wide and 6 feet deep. I thought this would better allow traffic to flow into our booth and give a good surface area to display lots of larger prints. We also had a small seating area to look at albums. That was it! No obtrusive tables, no collage of prints on easels and no massive LCD TV slideshow on a constant loop. Just tangible prints at sizes no smaller than 16×20. We got some great feedback! We were also able to meet a few of our brides that have already booked us for 2010 and 2011! It was great to see everyone and we can not wait to shoot your wedding!

Christina and Tray :: Engagement Session

This was our first shoot at the capitol building for a set of engagement pictures. It turned out amazing! Unfortunately, Iowa weather will often turn crummy and we’ll have to shoot indoors. This was such a perfect spot. It is very ornate and has all sorts of areas that allow for some fun shots! Here is 2 shots we took while getting ready for Christina and Tray:

Beautiful place isn’t it? The capitol + the couple was a great afternoon. “…cause everybody dips in the library, right?”  Chris spoke these words while we were shooting inside the library. It was just a blast! We are anxious to photograph the wedding! Enjoy!

Family Portrait Session

I’ve rewritten this post several times now trying to get the words down right.  I am not a writer.  This should be evident by my poor sentence construction found throughout this blog. But –  I do not want that to lessen what I want to say. The family below is an acquaintance of ours that we’ve known for close to a year now. To me, they define what it is to be generous, kind, compassionate and gracious. Before we shot the photo’s below  she had prepared a large meal for our entire family (we have 4 children).  There was homemade mango salsa,  beef kabobs, goat mixed with cilantro and vegetables as well as vegetables prepared all sorts of ways. It was all delicious.  I can’t thank you enough for your hospitality and invitation into your home. We hope you enjoy the photographs and look forward to getting together again!

Heather and James :: Part 2

We just finished post processing the last of James and Heather’s formals. All I can say is wow. Amazing couple + beautiful church + gorgeous reception grounds = epic formal photographs! Thank you again to Heather and James for allowing us to photograph your wedding. You guys were such a blast!
