Fort Worth, Texas :: Gam’s House :: Iowa Photographers

This past week I decided at 8pm Sunday evening to head to Texas to visit my grandma (whom we have always called Gam) the very next morning at 6am. Chris was unable to come but I decided to be daring and bring all 4 children. We made the drive there in just 13 hours. It had been almost 2 years since I had been down to visit. Seeing my Aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins and Gam was so refreshing. I stayed up into the early morning hours listening to my aunts tell stories about relatives I never had the privilege of knowing while scanning over a hundred family photographs.

The kids had a blast playing with their second cousins. They stayed out til well after dark playing tag and hide and seek. I am happy to know that they too will have fond memories of visiting their great grandma.

My grandparents had this house built in the 1950s. They raised 6 children here. I have lovely memories of visiting their home as a child. I used to sleep in my dad’s old bedroom. My cousin’s and I would spend the day exploring the house inside and out. We climbed trees and played on the giant aged  slide and swing set. However, as a child I never noticed how awesome my grandparent’s mid century modern home was/is. The lines are simply fantastic. Window light is everywhere. The transition between the indoors and out is seamless. The pocket doors, exposed wood beams and brick walls all add to it’s appeal. I would love to find photographs of how it looked when it was first built.

Gam would love these pictures. I know I have seen pictures of the house when it was being built. Gam was standing with the kids (minus dad) in the backyard on the non existant patio eating lunch picnic style. I have also seen pictures of your dad in a highchair on his 1st birthday in the dining room.

ok….SERIOUSLY. I love your children.

And what beautiful pictures! I love the ones with all the family chatting around the kitchen table. I feel like I’m there with all the kids running around.
